Samsung‘s President and CEO of IT & Mobile Communications Division DJ Koh have confirmed in the Indian Samsung flagship unveil event that the brand has plans to bring the Galaxy Fold, the foldable phone offering from Samsung in India.

However, there is no particular date or a timeline regarding the launch of the folding phone. The 5G variant of the Galaxy S10 will also make its way to India.

“Indian market is, I clearly said, most important market — not only investment and everything, my long-term commitment is towards the market. In this market, why will I not deliver my newest technology innovation? Yes, I will do.”

said, DJ Koh. Moreover, he has also revealed that the Galaxy Fold will be manufactured in India in order to keep the costs low as importing the device from other countries would result in hefty taxes on the device which is already costly to make. He also hinted that all this manufacturing process would be done at one unit.

As mentioned earlier, the Galaxy S10 5G will be available in India once carriers start rolling out the network for commercial use. The brand has stated that they’re working closely with carriers and will support all 5G frequencies.

Recalling the specifications of the Galaxy Fold, it has a 4.6-inch HD+ Super AMOLED screen at the front, and a 7.3-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED when it is unfolded. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855. There will be 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage and the device will run Android Pie out of the box with One UI on top.

There are six cameras on the device, three at the rear, one at the front, and two when the device is unfolded. The front camera is of 10 MP while the dual rear camera has 10 MP + 8 MP configuration. Upon unfolding, the triple 12 MP + 12 MP + 16 MP can be accessed.

Under the hood, there is a 4380mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging. The device is a single SIM supported one and features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. Stay tuned for more updates.
